The Modernization Workbench
Understanding an application from a business perspective enables an organization to make better decisions about where to focus resources and modernization priorities. One capability of the Modernization Workbench allows a user to group software assets based on user-defined attributes. In this case, we have defined an insurance claim processing system and its related sub-processes. We can then ‘roll-up’ our analysis to a higher level of abstraction, clarifying our view of what had been an extremely complex system. This abstracts information about the application to a business-level, and provides context to our understanding of the application.
Application Portfolio Manager
Organizations must identify and prioritize modernization activities before they can execute on them. With the Application Portfolio Manager module of the Modernization Workbench, organizations gain this ability. The module provides a mechanism for collecting and presenting business and technical insights into software assets. These views can be contextualized by the business groupings we defined earlier. As a result, professionals gain insight into the value, cost, and risk of their business processes and the software assets that automate these processes. This helps guide where modernization activities are focused.
