Chicago, IL – May 17, 2010 – Clerity, a full-service provider of mainframe migration, modernization, and optimization solutions, today announced enhancements to Clerity Universal Test Manager (UTM), an automated tool for creating, managing, and validating automated application test cases during large-scale mainframe migrations. By eliminating time-consuming, iterative manual testing cycles, migration activities that used to take months to perform can now be completed in a matter of days.
"With up to one-third of the work in a migration project consumed by testing and quality assurance, it is important to establish reliable test cases with repeatable, efficient processes," said Brandon Edenfield, president of Clerity Solutions. "Clerity Universal Test Manager provides a robust environment for creating and managing test scripts and is an important part of our end-to-end offerings for mainframe migration and modernization."
Downtime and end-user retraining can be costly and detrimental to a mainframe migration implementation. To ensure a smooth production cutover, all end-user screens must be thoroughly checked and tested. At sites with significant online application investments, this task can involve validating thousands of end-user scenarios to confirm that there will be no service disruption when operations begin on the new open systems environment.
Prior to Clerity UTM, end-user screen validation was typically a time-consuming, manual process that was not easily repeated and prone to human data entry errors. With Clerity UTM, screen inconsistencies are automatically flagged during playback and displayed in an intuitive graphical environment. Now end users are no longer required to participate in the time-consuming testing trials and developers can easily identify areas requiring further analysis after code or platform migration changes are made. These improvements reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and implementation time.
In the latest release of Clerity UTM, support has been added for common ‘green screen’ VT100/220-terminal-based applications, in addition to 3270-based applications commonly associated with IBM
® CICS
® transaction servers, IBM
® IMS
TM assets, Natural, and telnet-based mainframe programs. Batch job output reports, submission results and regression tests can be tested as well. Security has also been enhanced in Clerity UTM with the added support of secure SSH and SFTP connections.
Clerity UTM is available immediately. More information can be found at
