Mainframe Offloading

Drive down operational costs and increase productivity by offloading mainframe workloads

With the strong degree of source code and runtime behavior compatibility between mainframe and rehosted UniKix software environments, online and batch mainframe workloads can be efficiently offloaded to scalable open systems platforms to free up capacity, avoid unnecessary upgrades, or simply lower total cost of ownership.

Maintain ongoing operations while improving MIPS cost-per-transaction rates

Mainframe offloading provides a perfect solution to improve cost-per-transaction rates on compute-intensive activities such as daily account reconciliation, bill preparation, and financial record processing. Under this approach, the ongoing operation and maintenance of valuable IBM® CICS® transactions, batch JCL, and data such as VSAM, IBM® DB2® data, or Adabas Natural and related workloads continues uninterrupted on your current platform. Variable or planned processing cycles are then shifted to a lower cost platform during production with no impact on developers or end users.
Clerity's mainframe offloading solutions minimize disruption and keep current development processes intact by allowing a single source code base to be maintained on both mainframe and distributed platforms. UniKix mainframe rehosting software provides a native, mainframe-compatible environment for running workloads such as IBM CICS transaction processing and batch programs on distributed systems. For instance in JCL environments, common utilities such as IDCAMS, IEBGENER, and IEFBR14 do not change when running under UniKix technology since these utility features are implemented with UniKix Batch Processing Environment (BPE) software. Distributed versions of typical mainframe-orientated programming languages and compilers such as COBOL, Natural and PL/1 are also available.
Editing and compiling source code can continue in an environment familiar to your current development team. For instance, Clerity has extended uni-SPF to facilitate a customized development experience close to the ISPF development environment many mainframe customers are used to. Minor platform-specific differences such as EBCDIC versus ASCII collating sequences are easily addressed during preprocessing.

Automated workload distribution simplifies administration

Under the automated control of a centralized scheduler such as ORSYP Dollar Universe or IBM® Tivoli® Workload Scheduler, jobs and data can be systematically transferred between the mainframe and distributed environment, dynamically translated, executed, and the resulting output files returned to the mainframe for post processing without disruption. Similarly, data such as VSAM files and relational data can be automatically transferred between systems.
