CLERITY MAINFRAME REHOSTING SOLUTIONS
UniKix Batch Processing Environment (UniKix BPE) Software
Background
Most major business applications rely on large overnight batch processing runs to perform critical functions. In the past, this has traditionally been the role of the mainframe with its fast processors. Today, the pressure on batch is more intense than ever.
More and more businesses are expanding their world-wide markets, creating the need to shrink the overnight batch window. Other businesses are adopting large packaged applications on open systems as their main enterprise applications - again, creating the need for very fast overnight processing of large batches of data.
How can these needs be met?
Clerity has created a native, open systems based solution to meet the business critical need for fast batch processing. UniKix Batch Processing Environment (UniKix BPE) software provides a comprehensive batch job execution environment and features job step management and recovery, priority classes, conditioned execution, job monitoring, and more.
The UniKix BPE Software Environment
UniKix BPE software provides a framework for integrating necessary middleware required to support complete batch environments, including the administration, execution, and management of batch workloads, along with facilities allowing for the integration of third-party system management software components. With UniKix BPE software, both MVS and VSE JCL job streams can be migrated to open systems environments.

More Information
JCL Translation
The migration facilities provided in UniKix BPE software include the MVS and VSE JCL translators. The translators generate scripts that execute under control of the UniKix BPE software. The concepts of job, job steps, and procedure steps are maintained, along with support of the most common mainframe facilities like IDCAMS and SORT. Clerity scripts allow you to maintain your job streams using IBM JCL or to maintain, create, and modify the JCL streams.
The JCL translators automatically generate a FileMap, mapping the IBM files to the corresponding UNIX files. A GUI file editor is provided allowing you to graphically add, modify, or delete file entries or attributes. All file types are defined in the FileMap including Generation Data Groups (GDGs), concatenated datasets, VSAM files, and sequential files.
With the Unikix BPE solution, our clients have two choices. They can either maintain job streams using the native IBM JCL itself (this JCL is then precompiled to native scripts). Alternatively, when it is convenient for the customer as opposed to at the pace of the migration, the client can begin using the native scripts instead of the IBM JCL for the full transition to the new environment.
